Shimla, November 10
India’s World Cup-winning fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur received a grand welcome in her hometown of Rohru, Himachal Pradesh, as residents celebrated her return after the Indian women’s cricket team’s historic 2025 World Cup triumph. Locals lined the streets, showering flowers and cheering as Renuka arrived in Shimla district. Accompanied by family members and local officials, she was honoured with garlands and warm greetings for her remarkable contribution to India’s victory.
Upon reaching Shimla, Renuka first visited her family’s Kuldevi Hatkeshwari Mata Temple, where she offered prayers and sought blessings. Speaking to the media, she said that the World Cup journey was filled with pressure but also immense team spirit. “It’s a big stage, and yes, the pressure is always there. But our team stood together and played with unity,” she said.
Renuka also recalled her recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying she was touched by how well he knew about her and her mother’s journey. Commenting on the Himachal Pradesh government’s announcement of a cash reward and a job offer, Renuka said she was delighted by the gesture. “Every state is honouring its players, and I’m happy that Himachal has done the same,” she added.
