Ludhiana, April 8
In a move set to bolster Ludhiana’s road infrastructure, Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian will lay the foundation stone on Wednesday for two major development projects collectively valued at over ₹34 crore. The larger of the two schemes involves a 200-foot-wide road connecting Malerkotla Road to the Sidhwan Canal via the Lohara bridge. Estimated at ₹31.14 crore, the 1.7 km stretch forms part of the “missing link-2” network and will feature bituminous surfacing, electrical lighting poles, horticulture, public health works, and central medians for streamlined traffic flow.
Describing it as a “game-changer” for the region, Mundian said the project would not only ease commuting but also stimulate economic growth in the surrounding areas. “This new corridor will improve access and bring new opportunities for local residents and businesses,” he said.
The road is expected to be completed within a year and will be maintained for five years by the contracted firm, ensuring longevity and quality standards. Alongside this, a separate ₹3.31 crore project will commence for the special repair of a 3.85-kilometre link road stretching from GT Road to Khasi Kalan via Tajpur to Dhanansu. This much-needed upgrade responds to persistent local demands, particularly from residents relying on the deteriorated Tajpur Road corridor.
Highlighting the broader vision, Mundian reiterated the Bhagwant Singh Mann government’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure. “We are making sincere and focused efforts to modernise Punjab’s road network. These developments reflect our resolve to offer better connectivity and meet the aspirations of the people,” he added.
Both initiatives align with the state’s strategy to position Ludhiana as a modern urban hub with efficient, durable transport systems.
