Woman found dead in fields in Kangra

The body of a 35-year-old married woman was found in fields near her house in Shahpur area of Kangra district on Sunday, prompting police to register a case against her husband and sisters-in-law on charges related to abetment of suicide.

According to police, the woman had reportedly gone missing on Saturday. Her husband, Tilak Raj, had lodged a missing person complaint at the Shahpur police station, stating that she had left home without informing anyone.

However, on Sunday morning, Tilak Raj informed police that his wife’s body was lying in fields near their residence. A police team reached the spot, took the body into custody and began collecting evidence from the area. Statements of local residents were also recorded as part of the investigation.

ASP Kangra Veer Bahadur said the woman’s parental family later approached police and made serious allegations against her husband and sisters-in-law.

Based on their complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections related to abetment of suicide and took the accused into custody for questioning.

Police said a post-mortem examination is being conducted and the exact cause of death will be known only after the report is received. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.

Officials said further action in the case will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the post-mortem report.
