A viral video showing an alleged scuffle between a doctor and a patient at a government hospital has triggered widespread outrage in Himachal Pradesh, prompting swift action from the health department. The incident took place at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla, where a doctor was seen allegedly assaulting a patient. Following the uproar, the health department has removed the doctor from duty with immediate effect and ordered a detailed inquiry.

Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil said that any form of misbehaviour with patients would not be tolerated. He said strict guidelines governing the conduct of doctors and medical staff towards patients would be issued soon to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. Officials said the inquiry is under way and the final decision on the doctor’s suspension or termination will be taken after the investigation report is submitted. The health department said strict action would follow if the allegations are proven.

The incident has renewed concerns over patient safety and staff conduct in public hospitals, with calls for greater accountability in the healthcare system.
