A delegation of BJP legislators, led by former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, met Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, citing his alleged failure to ensure justice in the suspicious death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL)  Chief Engineer, Vimal Negi. In a detailed memorandum submitted to the Governor, the BJP alleged “serious administrative lapses and political interference” in the case and called for an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation alongside the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

Negi, was reported missing on March 10. His body was found eight days later in a lake in Bilaspur district. His family has accused his superiors of harassment, while the BJP has labelled the death as one occurring under “mysterious circumstances,” reflective of “deeper corruption and collapse of governance.”

“The Chief Minister has no moral right to continue in office,” Jai Ram Thakur told reporters outside Raj Bhavan. “This is not just about one death — it is about the erosion of public trust, the suppression of truth, and an administration unwilling to clean up its act.”

The BJP’s memorandum lists five demands include resignation of CM Sukhu on moral grounds, disciplinary action against police and administrative officers, immediate removal of the Shimla Superintendent of Police, safeguards against tampering of evidence, extension of the probe to include the Enforcement Directorate(ED) due to alleged financial irregularities

The BJP further accused CM Sukhu of misleading the public by denying the Negi family had requested a CBI probe — a claim contradicted by court submissions. “This is not just misinformation; it borders on contempt of court,” Thakur said, referring to the Chief Minister’s recent public comments on the ongoing legal proceedings.

The BJP also cited a High Court submission by the Director General of Police, which allegedly revealed tampering with case-related material. It has demanded accountability for the officers involved. The BJP also demanded  the dismissal of the Shimla SP.
