Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the patriotic song Vande Mataram should serve as a source of inspiration as India works toward becoming a self-reliant and developed nation by 2047. While addressing the Parliament, Modi said that the song carried a unifying power that transcended political lines. “There is no leadership and opposition here. We are here to appreciate and accept the debt of Vande Mataram collectively. It is because of this song that we are all here together,” he said.
Describing the moment as a “sacred occasion”, the Prime Minister said the song had historically brought the country together “from North to South and from East to West”, adding that the need for unity was as pressing today as it was during the freedom struggle.
He said that Vande Mataram was “far more than a mantra for political independence”, arguing that it carried a spiritual and civilisational message rooted in India’s cultural ethos. Quoting ancient texts, Modi said the idea of the motherland as sacred had long guided Indian thought. “This land is my mother, and I am the son of the soil… Vande Mataram is a modern avatar of our great cultural legacy,” he said.
