Uttarkashi, August 6

At least five people have died and more than 100 are missing after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Rescue operations are under way, with teams from the Army, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed across the affected region. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the flood-hit areas today and directed officials to remain on high alert. “All government agencies and the Army are working in coordination to carry out relief and rescue operations in Dharali,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). He added that more than 130 people had been rescued overnight.

Blocked roads are being cleared, and emergency assistance is being provided to affected communities.  Dhami also met families of those impacted, assuring them of full support from the state government. “This disaster has caused immense grief to many families. We stand with them in this difficult time,” he wrote.

Efforts are being accelerated to trace the missing, restore road access, and provide relief to displaced residents, he added.
