Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, discussing economic cooperation, defense, and regional stability during a meeting in Washington, D.C. The two leaders also discussed concerns related to irregular migration. Dr. Jaishankar, in a post on X, expressed optimism following his meeting with Rubio. “Delighted to meet @secrubio for his first bilateral meeting after assumption of office as Secretary of State. Reviewed our extensive bilateral partnership, of which @secrubio has been a strong advocate. Also exchanged views on a wide range of regional and global issues. Look forward to closely working with him to advance our strategic cooperation,” Jaishankar wrote.
The U.S. Department of State issued a statement emphasizing the shared vision of the two nations. “Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar today in Washington, D.C. Secretary Rubio and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar affirmed a shared commitment to continuing to strengthen the partnership between the United States and India,” it said.
The leaders addressed opportunities to enhance collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, defense, energy, and advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Rubio highlighted the Trump Administration’s focus on advancing economic ties and addressing concerns related to irregular migration.
