The US House Committee on Foreign Affairs has condemned a recent New York Times report on the deadly Pahalgam attack, which left 26 people dead, mostly tourists. The report, titled “At Least 24 Tourists Gunned Down by Militants in Kashmir,” described the tragic incident but refrained from explicitly labelling it as terrorism, which has sparked sharp criticism from US lawmakers. Instead of referring to them as terrorists, The New York Times used the term militants.

The New York Times report included a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described the shooting as “the worst against civilians in the region for years” and branded it a “terror attack,” vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, the newspaper did not adopt this terminology in its coverage, a decision that triggered the rebuke from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

On X (formerly Twitter), the committee’s majority responded: “Hey, @nytimes, we fixed it for you. This was a TERRORIST ATTACK, plain and simple. Whether it’s India or Israel, when it comes to TERRORISM, the NYT is removed from reality.”
