Chandigarh, May 4

Two men have been arrested in Punjab for allegedly leaking sensitive photographs and information related to Indian military installations to Pakistani intelligence operatives, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav in his post on X previously known as Twitter.

Palak Sher Masih and Suraj Masih were taken into custody on 3 May by Amritsar Rural Police following a counter-espionage operation. The police say the suspects passed on images and details of Army cantonment areas and air bases in Amritsar.

The police believe the accused were in contact with Harpreet Singh, also known as Pittu or Happy, currently held in Amritsar Central Jail. Singh is alleged to have facilitated their connection with Pakistani handlers.

The case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act, with officials saying more revelations are likely as investigations progress.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann praised the police for what he called a major breakthrough. “It’s a significant achievement in preventing an anti-national conspiracy. Punjab Police have again shown they are capable of safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of our nation,” he said in a statement.

Mann added that as a border state, Punjab bears a special responsibility to ensure national security and that its police force remains vigilant in this role.

Officials reiterated their commitment to work closely with the Indian Army to protect military assets and thwart foreign intelligence efforts.
