Three Punjabi men who went missing in Iran last month have been rescued by Tehran police, the Iranian embassy in India has confirmed. In a post on social media platform X, the embassy said: “Three missing Indian citizens freed by Tehran police.” It added that local Iranian media had reported their release.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had previously stated it was in close contact with Iranian authorities regarding the disappearance of the three men. The individuals—Amritpal Singh, 23, from Hoshiarpur; Jaspal Singh from Nawanshehar; and Husanpreet Singh, 27, from Sangrur—were believed to have been kidnapped by a trafficking network allegedly operating through Pakistan, according to their families.
Relatives said the men had been misled by a Hoshiarpur-based travel agent who promised them employment opportunities in Australia. Instead, they were reportedly taken to Iran, where their families claimed they were handed over to traffickers.
“The Embassy of India had requested Iranian authorities to urgently locate the missing Indian citizens and ensure their well-being,” the Indian embassy in Tehran said in a statement. It also said the families of the rescued men were being regularly updated.
