The North News has expressed solidarity with journalists laid off by The Washington Post, condemning the decision to sack around 300 staff members from the US newspaper.
In a statement, the digital news platform said the cuts represented a serious setback for independent and public-interest journalism, particularly at a publication long regarded as a global standard-bearer for the profession.
The North News acknowledged that it operates with limited resources as a small digital platform but said it remains committed to the principles of courageous and ethical journalism.
It added that any journalists affected by the layoffs who are willing to work with The North News would be welcome to collaborate, with the organisation offering to share its available resources to ensure that journalistic work continues.
“The pursuit of journalism must not stop because of financial or institutional constraints,” the statement said, emphasising the need for cooperation and resource-sharing to protect truthful reporting.
The platform said it believes journalism rooted in courage, solidarity and truth is essential, and must prevail despite growing pressures on news organisations worldwide.
