Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a factory fire in Sangareddy district of Telangana, where at least eight people were killed and several others injured on Monday. In a message posted by the Prime Minister’s Office on X, Prime Miniter Modi said he was “anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy”. “Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” the post said.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of each of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The explosion occurred at the Sigachi Chemical Industry in the Pashamilaram industrial area, with authorities saying the blast was powerful enough to throw some workers nearly 100 metres from the site. Emergency services, including firefighters and rescue personnel, were deployed immediately and are continuing operations at the site. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
