Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday felicitated 38 teachers during a state-level Teachers’ Day event held at Peterhof in Shimla. Education Minister Rohit Thakur presided over the programme in the absence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who was on a visit to Kullu. Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani attended as special guest.
The awards were given to 26 school teachers, six college faculty members and six from technical institutions. This is the first time technical teachers were recognised at the state-level celebration. Governor Shukla congratulated the awardees, describing teachers as “nation-builders” who play a vital role in shaping society. He said Indian tradition accords the guru a place above God and called upon educators to steer students away from substance abuse. He also highlighted that Himachal ranks fifth in the country’s education system and praised the National Education Policy 2020 for emphasising Indian values and creativity.
Education Minister Thakur said Teachers’ Day is observed annually on the birth anniversary of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He noted that alongside schoolteachers, both college and technical educators were honoured this year, reflecting the government’s push for qualitative reforms in education.
Technical Education Minister Dharmani said teachers were instrumental in preparing society for the future. He stressed that educators must remain updated in the digital era and expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would help Himachal’s institutions feature among India’s top 100 schools and colleges.
