The Haryana Police have arrested a second man allegedly linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency in less than a week, intensifying concerns about cross-border espionage following the launch of Operation Sindoor. Devender Singh, 25, a resident of Mastgarh village in Haryana’s Kaithal district, was taken into custody for reportedly sharing sensitive military information with contacts based in Pakistan, Kaithal Superintendent of Police Astha Modi confirmed.

Devender Singh, a first-year MA Political Science student at a college in Patiala, was initially detained on 13 May over a Facebook post displaying firearms. However, during questioning, he allegedly admitted to far more serious offences, including contact with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during a trip to Pakistan, the Police said.

According to police, Singh travelled to Pakistan in November 2024 through the Kartarpur Corridor, ostensibly for a religious pilgrimage. During the visit, he allegedly toured several sites, including Kartarpur Sahib and Nankana Sahib, but also came into contact with ISI operatives.

The Police revealed that Singh became ensnared in a honey trap orchestrated by a young woman acting on behalf of the ISI. He reportedly stayed with her for a week, during which his ties to Pakistani intelligence deepened. Upon his return to India, he is said to have remained in regular contact with ISI agents and passed on classified details relating to Indian military installations.

“He has confessed to communicating with five Pakistani intelligence agents and sharing information after returning to India,” police sources told local media. Singh is currently in police custody and undergoing further interrogation.

This is the latest in a string of espionage cases across northern India. Recent arrests have taken place in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Bathinda, as well as Haryana’s Panipat and Kaithal.
