Panchkula, May 27
In a shocking incident from Panchkula, seven members of a Dehradun-based family were found dead inside a locked car parked outside a house in Sector 27. Police say the group died by suicide after allegedly consuming poison.
The deceased include 42-year-old Praveen Mittal, his parents, wife, two daughters, and a son.
According to initial police findings, the family had travelled to Panchkula to attend a Hanumant Katha event organised by Bageshwar Dham. The tragic incident took place while they were reportedly returning home to Dehradun.
A suicide note recovered from the vehicle indicates that the family was under immense financial stress. Prima facie, police suspect that mounting debt and financial hardship led to the mass suicide.
Senior officers, including Panchkula DCP Himadri Kaushik and DCP (Law & Order) Amit Dahiya, visited the scene. A forensic team has collected samples for further examination.
