The Punjab Police have arrested Resham Singh, a key operative of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) for vandalising a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar on Wednesday. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrest in his post on X, stating that Resham Singh, a resident of Hamidi village in Barnala district, had been absconding since early June 2025. He is accused of vandalising a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Nangal and Phillaur acting on the instructions of Surinder Singh Thikriwal—an accused based in the US—and SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the DGP said.
He is also alleged to have defaced public property with pro-Khalistan and SFJ slogans across Patiala, Faridkot, Jalandhar and other areas. During the Indo-Pak tensions in May 2025, he reportedly painted provocative slogans such as “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Khalistan Zindabad” in an attempt to incite unrest.
Sharing details, the DGP said that the preliminary evidence indicates Resham Singh received foreign funding to carry out these acts. He has previous arrests under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), with cases registered in Karnal (Haryana) and Sangrur (Punjab) for similar offences. An FIR has been registered at SSOC Mohali, and further investigation is ongoing.
