Second phase polls: 57.03 pc voter turn out till 11.45 pm in JK

The second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of 57.03 percent till 11.45 pm on Wednesday, according to the Election Commission of India. People voted in 26 constituencies across six districts, including 15 seats in the Kashmir Valley and 11 in the Jammu division.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to exercise their democratic right, emphasizing the importance of participating in the elections. This marks Jammu and Kashmir’s first assembly election in a decade and the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. Approximately 2.5 million voters are eligible to cast their votes in this phase. The first phase, held on September 18, reported a 61% turnout, with the final phase scheduled for October 1 and vote counting on October 8.
