Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday unveiled a series of transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing telecom security and expanding broadband connectivity across India. Key highlights included the launch of the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, the National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0, and the introduction of Intra Circle Roaming at DBN-funded 4G mobile sites.
The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, designed for Android and iOS, offers tools to secure telecom resources and combat fraud. Features include reporting fraudulent communications, blocking lost or stolen devices, verifying mobile handset authenticity, and managing mobile connections under one’s name. Scindia emphasized the app’s role in ensuring safety and trust in telecom networks for India’s 90 crore smartphone users.
Launching the vision document for NBM 2.0, Scindia noted its foundation on NBM 1.0’s success, which saw nearly 8 lakh towers established and broadband subscriptions rise from 66 crore to 94 crore. “India aims to connect 1.7 lakh villages and provide broadband to 60% of rural households with speeds of at least 100 Mbps,” Scindia said.
Scindia highlighted India’s leadership in digital and telecom sectors, with over 531 million citizens connected to e-banking and ₹247 lakh crore in UPI transactions last year. “NBM 2.0 envisions a digitally inclusive India, empowering citizens and transforming sectors from e-governance to disaster management,” he added.
The initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, targeting a resilient and sustainable digital infrastructure for all.
