The Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti has hailed the Shimla District Court’s verdict in the Sanjauli mosque dispute as “historic” and urged the Municipal Corporation of Shimla to begin the demolition of what it calls an illegal construction without delay. The court had upheld the earlier decision of the Municipal Commissioner’s Court, which had on May 3, 2025, declared the Sanjauli mosque structure illegal and ordered its removal within eight weeks — a period that has now lapsed.

Speaking to reporters, the Samiti’s convener Bharat Bhushan said the mosque committee’s plan to appeal the ruling in a higher court reflects its “double standards.” He added that during the dispute, the committee had itself offered to dismantle the structure but was now shifting its stance. Bhushan also criticised the state government and Shimla Police, alleging that they had failed to trace Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators, while those raising their voices against illegal encroachments were being “harassed.”

The Samiti’s legal advisor Jagat Pal said that with no stay now in effect, the Municipal Corporation should immediately begin the demolition process as per the district court’s direction.
