Leader of Opposition and Former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has launched a sharp attack on Himachal Pradesh’s Congress government, alleging that corruption has reached its peak under the so-called “system change” administration. Thakur said even Congress leaders were now questioning the government’s functioning. He cited a social media post by the son of a senior party leader, who alleged that officials were involved in corruption, including irregularities in funds meant for people with disabilities.
The former chief minister said this showed that it was no longer the opposition but Congress’s own members who were exposing the government.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s relief package of 1,500 crore rupees following natural disasters, Thakur said it was the first time in the state’s history that such a large amount of assistance had been given. He accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of attacking the Centre instead of thanking the Prime Minister. “If the Centre has to do everything, then the chief minister should resign,” he said.
On issues concerning employees and pensioners, Thakur alleged that the government had failed to deliver on its promise of restoring the Old Pension Scheme, and was instead planning to revert to the New Pension Scheme. He claimed there was widespread resentment, with protests on the streets, effigy burnings, and delays in salaries and pensions.
“This government has lost its direction,” Thakur said.
