Haryana Police have launched a murder investigation after partially burnt body parts, believed to be those of a woman, were discovered in a deserted area near PGIMS in Rohtak. The gruesome discovery was made late Thursday evening behind the PGI director’s office, in a patch of overgrown bushes near the Rohtak–Delhi railway line. According to police, the remains included one severed hand and parts of the torso. The head and lower limbs have not yet been recovered.
Officials said the body parts appeared to have been doused with a chemical substance, likely in an attempt to destroy forensic evidence. The chemical caused the remains to burn and decompose severely, making identification difficult. Local children living near the staff quarters were the first to spot the remains and informed the authorities. Teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the PGIMS police station responded to the scene and took the charred remains into custody.
“There was no evidence of a fire, ash, or burnt wood, which suggests that the body was brought here and not set alight at the spot,” said a senior officer involved in the case. A search operation has been launched to locate the missing body parts, with forensic teams assisting in the investigation. So far, the identity of the victim has not been established, but preliminary findings suggest the remains belong to a woman.
Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby buildings and transport hubs in an attempt to trace the perpetrators. The area remains cordoned off as investigators continue their search.
No arrests have been made so far. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.
