Panchkula,  October 21
Haryana Police have filed a case against former Punjab Director General of Police Mohammad Mustafa, his wife Razia Sultana, and others following the suspicious death of their son Aqil Akhter in Panchkula. The FIR was registered at the Mata Mansa Devi police station after a complaint by Shamsudeen Chaudhary.

According to the FIR, Aqil Akhter had earlier posted a video on social media accusing his father and wife of having an illicit relationship and alleging that his family was conspiring to kill him. He had also named his mother and sister, claiming his life was in danger. Days later, he was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the family’s residence in Sector 4, Panchkula.

The complainant urged police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, citing the seriousness of the allegations and Aqil’s recorded statements. Deputy Commissioner of Police Srishti Gupta said a Special Investigation Team has been formed to examine digital evidence, including the victim’s video and phone records.

Police officials said the post-mortem and viscera reports would be crucial in determining the exact cause of death. The case has heightened public attention because of the high-profile background of the accused.

Subject: Complaint for Immediate Investigation into the Suspicious Death of Mr. Aqil Akhter S/o Mr. Mohammad Mustafa (Former DGP Human Rights, Punjab) and Mrs. Razia Sultana (Former PWD Minister, Punjab Congress)

Respected Sir,
I, Shamsudeen Chaudhary, most respectfully submit this complaint for your kind consideration and immediate action. It has come to my attention that Mr. Aqil Akhter, son of Mr. Mohammad Mustafa, Former DGP Human Rights Punjab, and Mrs. Razia Sultana, Former PWD Minister, Punjab Congress, and presently residing at Sector 4, near Mansa Devi Mandir, Panchkula, has died under suspicious circumstances.

There was simmering discontent between the deceased and his family. On 27th August, Mr. Aqil Akhter had publicly posted a video on social media where he made very serious allegations against his father and his own wife. In that video, he stated that he had discovered illicit relations between his father and his own wife, and further mentioned that his entire family, including his mother and sister, were conspiring to kill him or to implicate him in a false case.

He clearly expressed his apprehension that his life was under threat and that he might be killed by them. Now, the news of his sudden death has confirmed his apprehensions. This is clearly a case of deep foul play. In view of his prior video statement and the serious allegations made therein, the case requires a thorough, fair, and impartial investigation.

Therefore, I most humbly request that a comprehensive investigation be conducted into the death of Mr. Aqil Akhter, including the examination of all his social media video, digital evidence, records, post-mortem report, and interrogation of all relevant family members or associates, to ensure that the truth is brought to light and justice is done.

I shall remain obliged for your prompt and fair action.

Yours faithfully,

Former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa Denies Allegations, Calls FIR ‘Procedural’

Former Punjab Director General of Police Mohammad Mustafa has denied allegations against him and his family following the registration of an FIR in connection with the sudden death of his only son, Aqil Akhter. In a statement, Mustafa said the police had only followed due legal procedure. “When the police receive a written complaint, it is their duty to register an FIR. Panchkula Police has fulfilled its responsibility, and I welcome it,” he said.

He clarified that the registration of an FIR does not imply guilt. “This is just the beginning of the legal process. The truth will come out soon,” he added, urging supporters in Malerkotla and across Punjab not to panic.

“We are already grieving the loss of our young son. But we will not allow people with malicious political motives to exploit this tragedy,” Mustafa said. He also warned that those making “false and baseless allegations” would have to face the law.

He invited well-wishers to attend a special prayer (Ijtimai Dua) for Aqil Akhter’s soul at Malerkotla House on 25 October 2025 at 4 pm.
