Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday called for Pakistan’s nuclear weapons to be placed under international supervision, labelling the neighbouring country “irresponsible and rogue” in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. During a visit to Srinagar, Rajnath Singh said, “I ask the entire world if nuclear weapons are safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation. I believe that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”

His comments come just days after India launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military campaign following a deadly attack by terrorists in Pahalgam. Twenty-six tourists were killed by the terrorists after being asked their religious affiliation.

“Terrorists killed innocent people in Pahalgam by asking their ‘dharma’ , and the entire world saw the reply India gave after that,” Rajnath Singh told troops. “We killed terrorists based on their ‘karma’. They killed the innocent by looking at ‘dharma’—that was Pakistan’s karma. We eliminated them by their karma—that is our Bharatiya dharman,” he said.

Rajnath Singh praised the Indian Armed Forces for the success of the operation, claiming it sent a clear message to terror groups and their backers in Pakistan. “The masterminds hiding across the border must know: they are not safe anywhere. The Indian Armed Forces now have them in their sights,” he added.

The Defence Minister dismissed Pakistan’s repeated threats of nuclear escalation, calling them “nuclear blackmail”. “India’s resolve against terrorism is so strong that we did not care about their nuclear threats. The world has seen how recklessly Pakistan has used nuclear blackmail against India,” he added.

Beyond his official capacity, Rajnath Singh told soldiers he had come to deliver a message from the nation. “Besides being the Defence Minister, I am here as a messenger too—with best wishes, prayers, and gratitude from the entire country. I have come to you as a postman, carrying the message that we are proud of our Armed Forces,” he further said.
