A senior Punjab Congress leader  Rahulinder Singh Sidhu(Bhattal) has issued a sharp warning about the possible presence of “sleeper cells” within the state party unit, days after the party state Congress chief vowed to root out infiltrators. He welcomed the recent announcement by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring to dismantle sleeper cells allegedly planted by rival parties. However, Congress leader Rahulinder Singh Sidhu (Bhattal), who serves as the National Coordinator of the All India Kisan Congress, in an interview with The North News said that the threat may lie closer to home than many assume. “I welcome Raja Warring’s decision,” Bhattal said. “But there is a real possibility that sleeper cells already exist within the PPCC office or even among us in the party.”

He suggested that such elements may be actively working to undermine the Congress from within—possibly by trolling or criticising party leaders while posing as insiders. “Some may even be setting political agendas in the field that benefit other parties,” he added. Sidhu Bhattal called for urgent internal scrutiny, urging party leadership to identify and expel these covert disruptors before they can further erode trust and unity within the organisation.

Warring, speaking at a workers’ rally in Kapurthala district on April 5, had earlier asserted that the Congress in Punjab is unified and would not tolerate internal sabotage by operatives loyal to rival parties.
