Following the unexpected death of actor Mukul Dev, a wave of speculation flooded social media and news platforms, with many assuming depression had claimed the actor’s life. Now, Mukul’s brother and fellow actor Rahul Dev has broken his silence to share the real story—one grounded not in assumptions, but in love, loss, and the painful reality of personal neglect.
The Real Cause Behind Mukul Dev’s Decline
In an interview with The Times of India, Rahul clarified that Mukul’s death was not a result of depression, but of deteriorating physical health tied to poor eating habits. “He was in the ICU for over eight days,” Rahul said. “Medically, it was a result of poor nutrition. In his last four or five days, he had stopped eating completely.”
While acknowledging that Mukul had become more withdrawn over time, Rahul emphasized that speculating about mental health without knowing the full story was not only unhelpful—it was disrespectful.
“He had lost interest in life, yes. He felt lonely. But people making declarations now weren’t even in touch with him,” Rahul added, pushing back against the narrative circulating online. “He still ran half-marathons. He wasn’t unfit—he had just stopped caring for himself, and that showed.”
A Life Quietly Lived, Deeply Felt
Mukul had moved to Delhi in 2019 to care for his ailing father, who passed away later that year. Their mother died in 2023. Living alone, Mukul retreated further into writing, distanced from the industry and many of his old connections. Rahul shared that Mukul deeply missed his daughter and that his isolation likely intensified after their parents’ deaths.
But Rahul is determined not to let his brother be remembered solely through the lens of his final chapter.
“I want people to remember Mukul not as the man who faded away,” he said, “but as the super charming, intelligent, and sensitive person he truly was.”
Remembering Mukul Dev
Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23 in New Delhi, was known for his work across film and television. From popular TV shows like Gharwali Uparwali, Kasshish, and Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan to hit films like Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, and R… Rajkumar, his performances were always marked by quiet strength and versatility.
His last rites were held in Delhi, attended by family and close friends—many of whom, Rahul noted, had stayed present throughout his difficult final days.
