Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India in 2025 for the annual India-Russia summit, as confirmed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Speaking in a televised address, Lavrov stated that preparations for the high-level visit are already underway, marking a significant step in deepening ties between the two nations.
The visit follows an invitation extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their bilateral meeting at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan on October 22 last year. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov had previously confirmed that the trip was expected to be finalised in early 2025.
Modi last travelled to Moscow for the summit in 2023, underscoring the commitment of both nations to strengthening their strategic partnership. During their last meeting, Modi emphasized diplomacy as the key to resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, reiterating India’s stance on global peace and stability.
With Putin’s upcoming visit, India and Russia are expected to push their bilateral relations to an all-time high, focusing on economic cooperation, defense collaborations, and diplomatic engagements. The summit is likely to see discussions on trade, energy partnerships, and evolving geopolitical challenges.
As the global landscape shifts, India’s engagement with Russia remains pivotal, reinforcing a relationship that has been historically significant in shaping South Asian and Eurasian geopolitics.
