Punjab has been recognised as an emerging state in organ donation and transplantation’ during the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day held in New Delhi, marking a key milestone in the state’s healthcare development. Union Health Minister JP Nadda presented the award to Dr Avnish Kumar, Director of Medical Education and Research (DRME), alongside Dr Akash Deep Aggarwal and Dr Gagneen Kaur Sandhu from the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), Punjab.
The function was organied by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Punjab’s Medical Education and Research Minister Dr. Balbir Singh congratulated the team, calling it a recognition of the state’s growing efforts in building infrastructure, raising awareness, and encouraging deceased organ donation.
He reaffirmed the Bhagwant Mann-led government’s commitment to further strengthening organ donation initiatives and saving more lives through sustained awareness and better medical facilities.
