Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has announced that 71 government teachers will be honoured with the prestigious State Teacher Award 2025 at a ceremony in Sri Anandpur Sahib on Sunday, coinciding with World Teachers’ Day. The awards recognise the dedication and outstanding contributions of educators across the state. Of the total, 55 teachers will receive the State Teacher Award – 34 from senior secondary schools and 21 from primary schools. Ten teachers will be felicitated with the Young Teacher Award, six from secondary and four from primary schools. Three educators will be presented with the Special Teacher Award, while three more will receive the Administrative Award for leadership.
Each recipient will be honoured with a medal, shawl and certificate of merit, to be presented by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who will preside as chief guest. Bains said the awards reflected the state government’s pride in teachers, describing them as “true architects of a brighter future.” He added that Punjab’s education sector had made notable progress under the current government, pointing to the state’s top performance in the 2024 Rashtriya Parakh Sarvekshan (National Achievement Survey).
Punjab has also become the first state in India to introduce “Entrepreneurship” as a compulsory subject for Class XI students. The minister noted that a growing number of government school students are now qualifying in competitive exams such as NEET and JEE, demonstrating the impact of ongoing reforms.
