Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has directed officials to fast-track the resolution of demands raised by the Freedom Fighters, Successors Organisation, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to honouring the legacy of India’s independence movement.
Chairing a high-level meeting with representatives of the organisation, Cheema said Punjab stood “shoulder to shoulder” with the families of freedom fighters, and it was a moral and constitutional responsibility to address their long-standing concerns.
“The nation remains indebted to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. It is our duty to ensure their successors are treated with dignity and their rightful demands addressed transparently,” said Cheema.
He instructed Special Chief Secretary Raji P. Shrivastava, who heads the Department of Freedom Fighters, to expedite the redressal process and ensure timely resolution of all legitimate requests.
During the meeting, representatives including State President Chatin Singh Sekhon (Mansa), General Secretary Ravinder Singh Nangla (Bathinda), and Senior Vice President Major Singh (Barnala) raised several unresolved issues on behalf of the organisation.
Cheema reaffirmed the AAP-led Punjab government’s commitment to recognising the contributions of freedom fighters in the state’s development narrative. He assured continued engagement with the community to preserve and promote their historical legacy.
The meeting ended with a pledge to maintain accountability and pursue collaborative efforts to address concerns of families linked to the freedom struggle.
