Punjab to build Rs 7.20 crore indoor sports stadium in Dirba

Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today laid the foundation stone for a multi-purpose indoor sports stadium in Dirba, Sangrur. The ₹7.20 crore project, aimed at promoting sports culture, is expected to be completed within a year.

Cheema, accompanied by family members of late Padma Shri boxer Kaur Singh and kabaddi player Gurmail Singh, emphasized the government’s commitment to nurturing sports talent under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership. “This stadium will offer budding players a platform to excel at national and international levels,” he said.

The facility, located within the Shaheed Bachan Singh Memorial Sports Stadium, will host training for 11 sports, including kabaddi, boxing, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, judo, gymnastics, and wrestling. Cheema highlighted that the stadium will honor the legacies of Kaur Singh and Gurmail Singh as a tribute to their contributions.

Deputy Commissioner Sangrur, Sandeep Rishi, praised the project as a major step forward for the region’s sports infrastructure and development. Other officials, including SDM Rajesh Sharma, Municipal Council President Maninder Singh Ghuman, and District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh, were also present at the event.
