Punjab plans to enhance its renewable energy capacity by adding 264MW through the installation of 66 solar power plants, each with a 4MW capacity, by December 2025, State New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora said on Monday. The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has approved a tariff of ₹2.38 per kWh under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the sale of the generated solar power to PSPCL.
The project is expected to generate approximately 400 million units (MU) of electricity annually, reduce the state’s agricultural subsidy bill by ₹176 crore per year, and significantly lower carbon emissions. The energy produced will also contribute to Punjab’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets.
“This clean energy initiative not only diminishes reliance on fossil fuels but also attracts investments of approximately ₹1,056 crore, creating job opportunities in the non-conventional energy sector,” Arora said. The Minister urged officials of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) to ensure smooth and timely execution of the project. Arora emphasized that the solar plants would pave the way for Punjab to become a leader in clean energy.
