Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has ordered the immediate release of ₹68.98 crore to upgrade infrastructure, equipment and diagnostic facilities at four government-run medical colleges in the state. Chairing a review meeting of the Medical Education and Research Department on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the investment was aimed at improving the quality of treatment and strengthening diagnostic services for patients. He stressed that modern, high-end equipment was essential to ensure better healthcare outcomes.

Under the decision, ₹26.53 crore will be released to Government Medical College Amritsar, ₹28.51 crore to Government Medical College Patiala, ₹9.43 crore to Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, and ₹4.51 crore to the PGI Satellite Centre Ferozepur.  Mann said the funds must be used promptly for development works and the procurement of the latest machinery, adding that projects should be completed within set timelines. He reiterated his government’s commitment to developing Punjab as a global hub for medical education, arguing that stronger colleges would also benefit students and help sustain the state’s legacy of producing doctors who work around the world.

The Chief Minister said the primary objective of the upgrade was to ensure affordable, quality healthcare for the public, pledging that the state would leave “no stone unturned” to improve facilities at its premier institutions. Senior officials, including the chief secretary and senior health department officers, attended the meeting.
