Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Sunday said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government is committed to securing the future of orphaned and dependent children through sustained financial and social support initiatives. She said financial assistance worth ₹242.77 crore has been disbursed so far to help children who have lost one or both parents or whose families face severe hardships. For the current financial year 2025–26, the state has earmarked a budget of ₹410 crore for this welfare scheme, benefitting 2,32,290 children across Punjab.
Dr Kaur said the assistance aims to ensure children receive education, proper upbringing, and an improved standard of living, reinforcing the government’s pledge that no child in Punjab will be left without care or protection.
Highlighting the broader vision, Dr Kaur said the department is developing integrated welfare initiatives such as skill development, counselling, and education support to help children transition smoothly into self-reliant adulthood. “Punjab’s commitment goes beyond financial aid — it is about nurturing every child into a confident and capable citizen,” she said.
The Minister added that the initiative reflects the Mann government’s compassion and long-term commitment to uplifting the most vulnerable sections of society.
