Punjab Police have busted a cross-border smuggling module, arresting a key operative and seizing nearly 26kg of heroin in a joint operation with the Border Security Force. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the accused, Sajan Singh – also known as Billa – was arrested near Beharwal village in Amritsar. Singh, a local hairdresser, was allegedly working for Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Jatt, a proclaimed offender believed to be running the operation from abroad. Along with the heroin haul, Police also recovered a 9mm Glock pistol. The police said that Happy Jatt, a native of Jandiala Guru, has links with Pakistan-based smugglers who used drones to drop consignments across the border. He is wanted in at least 21 criminal cases, and police are seeking his extradition.

According to police, the seized consignment had been delivered by a heavy drone a day earlier. Singh had allegedly been receiving heroin drops for the past two months and remained in contact with Happy Jatt through social media platforms.

Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh said two other members of the module have been identified, and a manhunt is underway. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar.
