Chandigarh, August 5
The Punjab Police are intensifying security measures ahead of Independence Day, with Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav chaired a high-level law and order meeting in Chandigarh to review internal security, the anti-drug campaign, and emerging threats from across the border. The state-level meeting, held at the Punjab Police headquarters, brought together all Range DIGs, Commissioners of Police (CPs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), along with senior officers from intelligence and anti-narcotics wings.
According to a post shared by the DGP on X (formerly Twitter), key issues discussed included cross-border drug smuggling, Pakistan-backed terrorism, and organized crime networks.
The meeting also reviewed progress under the state’s flagship anti-drug campaign #YudhNashianVirudh, which was launched on March 1 this year. The campaign adopts a two-pronged strategy — aggressive enforcement alongside community-driven prevention efforts — to combat drug addiction and trafficking in the state.
Senior officers from the Special DGPs of Law & Order, Intelligence, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) presented detailed assessments of ongoing operations.
DGP Yadav instructed all field units to stay on high alert and ensure “foolproof” security arrangements across Punjab as the state prepares for the August 15 celebrations.
