Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully thwarted a potential grenade attack on a police establishments with the arrest of five members of a Pak-ISI backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module linked to foreign-based gangster Jiwan Fauji, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday. Those arrested include
four adults and one juvenile from Haripura, Amritsar. The group is linked to foreign-based gangster Jiwan Fauji, who is said to be operating from overseas and directing operations in Punjab’s border districts. According to Punjab DGP, the police recovered a hand grenade, a country-made .32 calibre pistol, and five live cartridges from the accused. The group had been plotting to launch grenade attacks on police installations in the area, he added.
“This is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle terror networks and keep Punjab safe, as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann,” said DGP Yadav. “The module was recruited and radicalised by Jiwan Fauji to carry out targeted acts of violence,” he added
Initial investigations suggest the accused had been tasked with retrieving weapon consignments from the Ajnala sector, and provided with motorcycles to facilitate their movements. Sharing more details, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said one of the accused, Ajay Kumar, attempted to flee custody by snatching a police weapon and firing at officers. He was injured in retaliatory fire and is being treated at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
The accused are also believed to have provided logistical support in a recent shooting incident targeting a shopkeeper in Mahal village. Police say they supplied an Activa scooter used in the attack. An FIR has been registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station in Amritsar. Investigations are ongoing to trace the wider network and determine forward and backward linkages.
