Punjab Police have cracked a transnational weapons smuggling module with links to handlers based in the United States. Counter Intelligence Amritsar has arrested Gurwinder Singh, alias Guri, from Ludhiana, and five illegal pistols were recovered from his possession. According to investigators, Gurwinder Singh was operating under the directions of Gurlal Singh and Vipul Sharma—both currently residing in the US—who are believed to be key handlers in the network.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Gurwinder is the brother-in-law of Hardeep Singh, a known drug smuggler who absconded to the US in 2022 after being booked by the Special Task Force in 2020. The police suspect that Hardeep Singh and Gurlal Singh have formed an alliance abroad to run a weapons smuggling syndicate using local associates in Punjab, DGP Gaurav Yadav said in an official statement.
Sharing details, the DGP said that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Amritsar. The investigation is ongoing to map out the full network and establish backward and forward linkages. This arrest marks a major breakthrough in our fight against transnational organised crime. We are committed to dismantling these networks with utmost professionalism and vigilance, the DGP said.
