Punjab’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has busted an illegal arms smuggling network with alleged links to Pakistan, arresting two operatives accused of supplying weapons to associates of foreign-based gangsters. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the suspects as Fateh Singh and Gurpreet Singh, both from Tarn Taran’s Dhalla village. Officers recovered five sophisticated pistols—two PX5 .30 bore and three star-marked .30 bore—from their possession.
The Police said the suspects had ties to a Pakistan-based smuggler, Amar from Gharak, who allegedly used drones to transport weapons across the border. Acting on intelligence, CI teams intercepted the duo near a government school in Amritsar and seized the weapons. Preliminary investigations suggest that the smuggling operation was linked to gangsters Lakhbir Singh Landa and Satta Naushera, based in Tarn Taran. The accused were reportedly in direct contact with Amar and his associates.
A case has been registered under the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with further investigations underway to trace wider connections in the network.
