Chandigarh, April 11
The Punjab Police have busted a cross-border network involved in drug trafficking and illegal weapons, arresting two suspects and seizing a large quantity of heroin on Saturday. According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, officers in Batala recovered 6.5kg of heroin, a .30 calibre pistol with six live cartridges, and ₹100,000 in suspected drug money during the operation.
He said the case points to a wider criminal nexus linking drug smuggling, extortion and the supply of illegal arms. The preliminary investigations suggest weapons were being distributed to operatives within the network, raising concerns about organised criminal activity extending beyond drug trafficking.
An FIR has been registered at Civil Lines police station in Batala, and further inquiries are under way to trace both the supply chain and distribution links, with the aim of dismantling the entire network.
Punjab Police said it remained committed to a zero-tolerance approach against drugs and illegal arms.
