The Punjab State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has taken suo-motu cognizance of private schools flouting the Education Department’s directives on school opening timings during summer and winter seasons. Chairman Kanwardeep Singh said some private schools are opening earlier than the prescribed time, risking children’s safety in foggy and cold weather conditions. He cited recent school bus accidents as a serious concern.
The Commission has directed the School Education Department to take strict action against violators. “If an accident occurs due to non-compliance, the school principal and management will be held accountable,” Singh warned.
Additionally, all District Education Officers, Child Protection Officers, and local police have been instructed to enforce adherence to government orders promptly.
The move underscores heightened vigilance on child safety amid increasing road safety concerns during winter.
