Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema met with representatives from various employee unions on Monday, aiming to address long-pending demands related to the Forest and Education Departments. Cheema, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee tasked with resolving employee grievances, was joined by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains during meetings with education sector unions. The discussions were held at the Finance Minister’s office in the Punjab Civil Secretariat.
Those who attending the meeting include the Janglat Workers Union, ETT Test Pass Adhiyapak Association (Jai Singh Wala), Murhbahal Kache Adhiyapak Union, and the Berujgar B.Ed TET Pass Adhiyapak Union. Union leaders presented their concerns regarding job regularisation, delayed postings, and other employment-related issues. During talks with the Janglat Workers Union, Forest Department Secretary Priyank Bharti briefed the ministers on the status of the union’s demands. After a detailed discussion, Cheema instructed the department to consider the key issues within the Officers’ Committee and forward the proposal to the Cabinet Sub-Committee for further review.
In the education sector meetings, both Cheema and Bains assured union leaders that most of their demands are already being considered by the government. They reaffirmed their commitment to resolving all legitimate demands in a time-bound manner.
Union representatives present included Amrik Singh, Ravi Kant, and Satnam Singh from the Janglat Workers Union; Vikas Sahni, Lakhwinder Kaur, and Amandeep Kaur from the Murhbahal Kache Adhiyapak Union; Jaswant Singh, Nashattar Singh, and Kuldeep Singh from the Berujgar B.Ed TET Pass Adhiyapak Union; and Kamal Thakur, Sohan Singh, and Gurmukh Singh from the ETT Test Pass Adhiyapak Association.
The meetings come amid growing demands from contractual and ad hoc employees for better job security, regularisation, and timely recruitment processes across government departments.
