Chandigarh, December 26
Punjab has become the first state in India to establish an online system for addressing the grievances of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from the state. This initiative, launched in December 2024, allows NRIs to file complaints on issues related to Punjab, ensuring timely and efficient resolution.
The Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has prioritized resolving NRI grievances throughout 2024. Earlier this year, four “NRI Milni” programs were conducted in February, addressing a significant number of complaints.
The initiative’s key feature, “Online NRI Milni,” enables NRIs worldwide to directly present their issues to the minister for NRI affairs, senior officials, and police officers from the NRI wing. Held during the first week of every month, these online sessions aim to resolve complaints immediately, particularly those related to the Revenue and Police Departments. About 20% of registered grievances involve cases already under judicial consideration.
For district-level complaints, civil and police officers are instructed to act promptly. Cabinet Minister for NRI Affairs Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated that Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have been directed to prioritize these cases. Collaborative efforts at the district level have helped expedite resolutions.
This milestone reflects Punjab’s commitment to connecting with its global diaspora and addressing their concerns effectively.
