Chandigarh, April 2
Punjab Finance Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, on Wednesday directed officials of the Transport Department to clear all pending Registration Certificate (RC) and Driving Licence (DL) applications within a fixed timeline, aiming to enhance public service delivery. Chairing a review meeting, the minister emphasized that applications stuck at verification and approval stages must be processed without delay. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring timely services and said that all delayed cases would be closely monitored.
Cheema informed that the department is compiling data on pending applications and identifying reasons for delays to fix accountability and expedite the clearance process. He also instructed officials to ensure prompt disposal of applications submitted through faceless and contactless service systems.
Addressing public inconvenience, the minister directed authorities to prioritise clearing the backlog in printing RCs and DLs.
In addition, Cheema highlighted ongoing measures to improve road safety through enhanced monitoring mechanisms, including the use of traffic cameras. He added that efforts are underway to strengthen public transport services by reviewing schedules and expanding coverage to remaining routes.
