Medical services in Punjab’s government hospitals have been significantly disrupted as 2,500 doctors launched the strike on Monday, pressing for the revival of assured career progression schemes and enhanced safety protocols. Despite the widespread impact, emergency and ICU services remain operational to ensure critical care, according to media reports. The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA), which initiated the strike, initially restricted outpatient departments to three hours of daily operations, from 8 am to 11 am, until September 11. This action follows unsuccessful negotiations with the state government. Authorities have urged the doctors to delay their protest, requesting more time for discussions and a potential resolution.
