Punjab government has distributed ₹6.3 crore in compensation to families affected by floods, just days before Diwali. As part of “Mission Rehabilitation”, 12 cabinet ministers handed over sanction letters to beneficiaries across multiple districts on Wednesday. This follows the Chief Minister’s launch of the compensation drive on 13 October from Ajnala, where ₹5.70 crore was disbursed to 631 families.
Under the relief package, the state is providing ₹20,000 per acre for crop loss, up to ₹1.20 lakh for damaged houses, and financial aid for livestock. Funds are being transferred directly to beneficiaries through DBT to ensure transparency. Special teams were deployed to cover all affected households, and damaged roads are set to be repaired soon.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema began the distribution in Sangrur, where ₹3.50 crore will be released. In SAS Nagar, Cabinet Minister and AAP State President Aman Arora handed over compensation letters worth ₹66 lakh to around 80 families.
Social Security Minister Baljit Kaur distributed ₹1.05 crore in Fazilka district for crop and house damage, while Health Minister Balbir Singh disbursed ₹88 lakh to 232 farmers in Patiala district.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak handed over cheques worth ₹31 lakh to 130 families in Pathankot. Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar launched the distribution in Kapurthala, while Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO allocated ₹59 lakh to 138 families in Gurdaspur.
In Ferozepur district, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian distributed more than ₹1.22 crore to farmers in multiple villages. Local Government Minister Ravjot Singh launched the relief drive in Hoshiarpur, providing ₹24.27 lakh to 60 beneficiaries.
Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal distributed ₹42.41 lakh to affected families in Ajnala and Rajasansi. Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian handed out ₹25.05 lakh in Samrala, while Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat allocated ₹10 lakh to farmers in Shahkot.
The government has pledged that every affected family will receive timely assistance and that rehabilitation work will continue in the coming weeks.
