Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has launched a pioneering initiative to modernise education by distributing laptops to students in government schools. The move, part of the Ludhiana administration’s digital education programme, aims to equip students with the tools needed for success in an increasingly technology-driven learning environment. Speaking at the distribution event on Friday, Mann said the initiative is designed to democratise digital education and ensure accessibility and security for all students. He highlighted that these Prime Book 4G laptops, described as the world’s most affordable, are tailored for students and mark the first phase of the programme.
The laptops, integrated with Ei PAL Mindspark software, provide personalised and adaptive learning experiences. Distributed across 14 government schools in the Ludhiana district, the initiative seeks to expand access to digital education, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Mann emphasised the government’s commitment to enabling students in public schools to compete with their peers from private institutions.
“These laptops have been designed to be affordable and durable, featuring advanced digital safety measures such as a secure operating system, controlled access, and data encryption to ensure a safe learning experience,” Mann said. He also expressed confidence in the initiative’s success and extended his best wishes to the Ludhiana administration.
Ludhiana’s Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal described the initiative as an experimental model to assess the impact of cost-effective, high-performance laptops on student outcomes. He noted that the programme would not only empower students with essential digital skills but also support teachers in integrating technology into their classrooms.
By bridging the digital divide, the initiative seeks to create a scalable, secure, and student-centred education model, ensuring long-term benefits for Punjab’s government school students.
