In a significant move to enhance industrial policy and ease of doing business in Punjab, the state government has announced the formation of three expert committees targeting key sectors of the textile and apparel industries. Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora on Tuesday said that the panels have been tasked with recommending sector-specific policy improvements by 1st October 2025. Each committee consists of leading industrialists and will receive government support to analyse and propose reforms based on best practices from across India.

The Spinning and Weaving Committee will be chaired by S P Oswal of Vardhman Textiles. The Apparels Committee will be jointly chaired by Sandeep Jain of Monte Carlo Fashions Ltd and Rajnish Gupta of Bala Ji Dyeing will head the Dyeing and Finishing Units Committee.

“These committees will give structured input on how to create a customised, world-class policy for their respective sectors, tailored to Punjab’s unique industrial ecosystem,” said Arora.

The panels comprise representatives from companies across different sizes, sub-sectors and regions within Punjab, ensuring a diversity of perspectives. Notable members include industry bodies such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Punjab Dyers Association, and executives from firms like Trident Ltd, Nahar Spinning Mills, and Octave.

Each committee has a designated Member Secretary, typically an Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), responsible for coordinating meetings and preparing official documentation. Administrative assistance will also be provided by officials from the Department of Industries and Commerce and the Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion (PBIP). Minister Arora noted that the government may expand the panels by adding more members to ensure comprehensive sectoral representation.

The initiative comes as Punjab seeks to revitalise its industrial landscape and position itself as a competitive investment destination.
