Chandigarh, September 12
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed officials to launch a special survey of crop losses caused by recent floods, beginning on September 13. The survey, known as a special girdawari, will be completed within 45 days, after which compensation cheques will be handed to affected farmers. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting at Chief Minister Mann’s Chandigarh residence on Saturday, attended by Deputy Commissioners and senior state officials via video conference.
“The flood situation was reviewed, and discussions were held on dealing with the natural disaster. At the same time, orders were issued to start a special girdawari from September 13 and to complete this process within 45 days to hand over compensation cheques to the farmers,” Mr Mann wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Officials have been instructed to carry out village-level visits, inspect fields, and submit detailed reports. The chief minister said compensation will cover not only crop damage but also losses to houses and livestock.
“In this hour of grief, your son stands with you. Everyone will be given their due compensation as soon as possible,” he added.
