Punjab government successfully allotted 207 retail excise groups, generating an annual license fee of ₹9,878 crore, surpassing the estimated ₹9,017 crore, said Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday.  Total  9.5 percent increase over the reserve price marks a record-breaking achievement for the Punjab Excise Department, he added.

Cheema, in a statement, attributed this success to Punjab’s progressive excise policy, which prioritises transparency and stakeholder engagement. The entire allotment process, conducted via online auction, received an enthusiastic response from industry players. “Punjab’s dynamic excise policy ensures the availability of high-quality liquor at competitive prices, striking a balance between revenue generation and consumer welfare,” he said.

The state’s total excise revenue is projected to surpass ₹11,500 crore, reflecting Punjab’s steady growth in regulated liquor trade. The finance minister credited this success to strategic policy decisions, streamlined supply chain management, and robust regulatory mechanisms.

Alongside revenue growth, Punjab has intensified its crackdown on illicit liquor and smuggling. The finance minister highlighted the role of technology-driven monitoring and enhanced coordination between civil and police authorities in strengthening enforcement measures.

Cheema reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising excise management while ensuring transparency and consumer safety. “This achievement sets a new benchmark for Punjab, solidifying its position as a frontrunner in excise sector reforms and governance,” he said.
